Our Story

Breakaway Church’s journey is a powerful story of God’s provision and faithfulness, proving time and time again that what seems impossible is no match for Him. Founded in 2009, our church faced a major setback when our church planter passed away less than two years after starting, and many said, "That church is done." However, within a year, we went from averaging 60 people on Sundays to nearly 200, as the Lord opened doors with the Wells Branch MUD, allowing us to move from a small annex building to the spacious Wells Branch Rec Center. God not only grew our church in number but also equipped us to plant Eastside Community Church and send missionaries across the globe.

When the Wells Branch MUD gave us a 60-day notice to vacate, we turned to God once again. He united us to raise the funds necessary to move into our current location on Wells Branch Parkway. After CVS purchased our children’s ministry building and demolished it, we once again turned to God. We asked, and He provided abundantly more than we could have imagined.

In July of 2021, a donor blessed us with 4.38 acres of land in Brushy Creek, in a neighborhood called Breakaway. As a church, we recognized this gift as God’s clear provision for our future. We then began praying that God would stir the hearts of our community to become cheerful and generous givers in support of a capital campaign to build our future church home.

We chose the title “Revive the Stones” for this capital campaign. It spoke to the enemy’s desire to tear down our church, but more importantly, to how God was leading us through challenges to fulfill His purpose for our good and His glory. In the book of Nehemiah, the enemy mocked God’s people as they sought to rebuild their home: “Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubble, and burned ones at that?” (Nehemiah 4:2). The enemy reminded them of how small they were and how insurmountable the task seemed. Yet, through faith, perseverance, and hard work, God’s people rebuilt the wall and, once again, began fulfilling their calling—to be a distinct people revealing the love and grace of God to the world.

We are a distinct people, and our church has proven to be faithful, cheerful, and generous in all things. God has moved powerfully through this church, and together, we pledged to give $3.3 million over three years—WOW!

Through the Revive the Stones campaign, we’ve had front-row seats not only to how God is providing for our church, but also to how He has worked in the lives of your families as you’ve shared your stories of His faithfulness and provision to fulfill your commitments. It’s humbling, and these are truly stories only God could write.

As the foundation and walls of our new church facility take shape, we eagerly anticipate the ways God will continue to lead us, empowering us to boldly live out our mission at Breakaway Church: Love God. Love People. Make Disciples—and to see His glory revealed in ways we can hardly imagine.
